This drawing is both detailed and large for a production character drawing. According to the artist, Eugene Yelchin, he and director Gore Verbinski spent a weekend at his house drawing characters and Western sets, which in turn led to the feel and the story of the film. Rango won the Academy Award in 2011 for Best Animated Feature. Yelchin is an award winning children's book illustrator and has been awarded both the Golden Kite Award as well as the prestigious John Newberry Medal.

The art measures 14" x 17".
